Horror Top Five
These are my Top Five Horror Films, with comments showing reasons for their inclusion: All are CGI free!
1. John Carpenter's The Thing. 1982.
Although most would probably believe the genre is strictly Sci-fi, this still resonates as a terrifying horror movie when you consider the dreadful atmosphere and the seclusion; it had such a perfect visceral score also.
"It's gone MacReady!"
2. Alien. 1979.
This was called the haunted house in space movie. All the claustrophobic scenes along with the deaths make it riveting. It's set aboard a vast huge ship with only a few people on it, making the whereabouts of the monster very eerie indeed.
"Micro changes in air density my ass!"
3. An American Werewolf in London. 1981.
A black comedy and somewhat scary at the same time. It's quite well made. In fact during half way through the film my lycanthropic self came out! This really towers over all the other werewolf films.
"You made me miss!"
4. The Shining.1980.
What starts out to be just an ambitious job (looking after a massive hotel) turns slowly into a weird and frightening nightmare. The place is literally haunted and the psychological effects are truly horrid. After I saw it I couldn't stay in any room on my own for days!!
"RED RUM!"
5. Friday 13th.1980.
The 'who's doing it' packs a real scare in this horror movie. You are completely unaware of who actually is the killer right up until the end. It comes up as the number 1 slasher film on the list in my view. Plus there are a few neat jump scares.
"Kill her Mommy, kill her!"
